Zurich

Note, published out of chronological order.

We had an errand or two that required travel to Zurich, so we turned it into a weekend trip.

Using Vrbo to locate some apartments, I discovered an exciting and chic little number to check out. A company managed the apartment called Le Bijou. This apartment was in central Zurich, a few minutes from the train station and the main shopping thoroughfare.

I refrained from taking photos of the bathroom and potty, tempting though it was! The potty was super-automated, thrilled the kids, and certainly gave an elevated level of hygiene. It had a sensor to raise the potty lid when you were in range, and if your needs required a sitting position, you had further options! These included a heated seat, a warm water jet to your exposed area, and followed by a blow dry. After flushing and leaving the vicinity, the lid would close automatically and lower itself back to the closed position.

Since then, I now find myself getting frustrated whenever I go to the WC at the lack of available automation.

Moving on...

We left the apartment adventuring around downtown Zurich. We were looking to hunt down some breakfast pastries when we found some exciting artwork masquerading as a water fountain.

After breakfast and roused the kids, we visited the Arcteryx store in Zurich under the railway arches with other boutiques and cafes.

After lunch, we found an interesting coffee store for a quick pick-me-up! Which I think was much needed at this point in the day.

We continued to meander around parts of the old city, crossing one or two of the many bridges over the river.

Family night dinner at a cozy restaurant.

The weekend would not be complete without an evening dinner at a fancy restaurant for an Andi and Steve adult-only date while the kids remained shackled back in the apartment. It is helpful to have the gymnasium include lots of equipment.

Ok, I am only joking; they were free to eat take-out pizza and watch a movie.

The date night location at restaurant Zunfthaus Zur Waag is the blue building slightly right of center.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we found that the table was not ready on time. We took seats in a lounge area upstairs where we enjoyed a glass of champagne, surprising us with a house entertainer, who was a magician. He showed us various fun tricks for 20 minutes until our table was ready. He was around all evening chatting to guests or showing them tricks. He was outstanding and very personable. It made for an unexpected bit of light fun. Being puzzled and curious, we had to go online and investigate some of the tricks he showed us. He gave us his business card, John Driscoll, stating that he was available for hire at home or for business entertainment! Shameless plug!

On the final day of our short stay, we decided on a boat trip along the Limmat river to the lake.

At the end of the boat trip, we found ourselves at the Swiss national museum, where a market was being held in the square.

Of course, this was just the first visit of many, given the short train ride from Basel. Steve's main work office was located here too. Since working from home was simpler, only one visit to the office occurred before our return to the US.
