It was time to return to the US for the kids' schooling and the end of Andi's international assignment.

It was a bittersweet ending saying goodbye to those friends we made, neighbors, their pets, and our favorite cafes, bakeries, and restaurants.

Our apartment had been a great find, close to the fields and trails and only a short tram ride into the center of Basel. It provided a great little yard for housing the trampoline and allowing Pepper to exercise and chase cats.

The garden also housed a little hedgehog we came across now and then.

Hoffman La Roche service staff came by and collected their BMW. Note that the car was returned without any new scratches and no outstanding tickets. I think!

Here is our packing up after a couple of days.

The relocation company packers moved our belongings onto the truck to go on the boat and continue an ocean voyage across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal, and onto San Francisco.

Pepper was all ready to fly with her Swiss passport stamped for travel.

Once we moved out of the apartment, we stayed at a hotel in Basel center until it was time to fly.

While staying there, Andi and I managed a few final runs together, which ended with an espresso from the mobile coffee cart and cooling our feet in the Rhein.

The final evening before flying to the US, we had dinner at the Volkhaus restaurant close to the hotel.

Now we fly onto the USA and the next set of North American adventures.

Auf Wiedersehen Basel!
