With the global pandemic in full swing and the arrival of the Easter break the kids were looking to acquire some new skills and some fun home activities.
Being Easter we planned for the customary egg hunt by leaving this to the final minute as we used the recently added skills of panic-buying toilet paper extending them to buying eggs. That is to say, the chicken produced variety, not the Lindt produced version. This is Switzerland and chocolate is an essential item 7x24x365 and so no shortage on those items.
After a couple of grocery shopping excursions we had amassed a few eggs. Although we did assume that the acquired eggs were pre-cooked and hardboiled. As it turned out this was not the case. Ryan broke a couple rapidly discovering that an essential preparation step for egg decorating had been missed.
Oh dear, never mind, what a shame. Luckily there are more.
Finished products looked good. Although careful handling was still needed or there would be a swift call to the Easter bunny!
Over the course of the week leading up to Easter weekend, Hayley had requested to learn some more cooking skills. She has been watching the Sugar Rush baking show on the TV recently. Jumping on the enthusiasm we got out the Cooks Illustrated kids cookbook we had bought for such an occasion. It is an awesome book with recipes for all types of culinary courses and cuisines. Hayley, predictably, went straight to the dessert section and found cup cakes. Now she could show her knowledge from Sugar Rush baking show.
Mama and Hayley took the task to hand and made some wonderful cakes which became dessert after dinner.
The cup cakes were very tasty and light. Good job Hayley and Mama.
The following morning being Easter Sunday the kids checked out the backyard for those elusive uncooked but colorfully decorated eggs hidden by a furry creature overnight.
Hayley was on the ball and quickly located her quantity of eggs. Ryan somewhat less than enthused but playing along took extra time as the final egg was craftily hidden behind a ball.
Now the Lindt versions! Gulp!
