It was that time of year again on the school calendar for the run challenge. The school promotes it for charity and as a big deal and quite a challenge for some who spend less cycles on the physical demands of life.
Although for our two stinky kids, growing up with two avid runners for parents, it was no big deal. Ryan regarded tapering was the only training required. He won first place for his grade year and ran quite an impressive time.
Hayley who had a good run the previous year finishing third in her group was not confident of improving.
However, some parental motivation - like financial incentives, such as a Nike contract for us to buy her running shoes for the upcoming year, and we will give CHF 10 for each place you improve on last year, proved to be a key factor. She won first place!!!
*Actually did not give her any money - she didn't need it to be persuaded. But we buy her shoes, as Nike declined to give us them for free. What is the Nike investment for the future, Phil?
