Locking in the power run

Sunday mornings are a good time for a run. Getting over the previous weeks hectic schedules and set yourself up for the next one. The weather in Basel is especially good right now. We are still in the Spring transitional period after the cold and wet of Winter but before the summer heat hits.

Chosen running routes often head to the Rhein and take a route in either direction and watch for aquatic activities of interest: paddle-boarding, water skiing, interesting boats or just everyday swimming.

Today proved no exception as there was a commercial barge heading through the lock up river.

Here are the lock gates closing now the boat is safely moored.

Also this week, the lock had been engaged to release water to raise the level downstream.

Birsfelden Hydroelectric power plant is a fun bridge to run or cycle across and the power plant is an interesting engineering aspect and is very open to viewing.

Looking over the gates and one is lowered a tad to let some water through.
