We took the train to Lucerne from Basel SBB station which takes about an hour, so not a long journey by any means. Even so, early in the morning, wise to load up with coffee and breakfast snacks for the kids.
Immediately on our arrival in Lucerne we crossed the road outside of the station to the lake and boat excursions. Here you can see I am looking back across the road to the station.
On this occasion we had the good fortune to have about 30 minutes to spare before our boat trip. We took a quick look around the harbor and crossed one of the oldest truss bridges. The Kapellbrücke is a covered wooden footbridge spanning the River Reuss diagonally in the city of Lucerne in central Switzerland. It is adorned with some beautiful art work.
As you can see there was may amazing pieces of art but not all had made it to the current day. A fire not so long ago destroyed some pieces. Those that survived are in good shape mostly and are fun to look at.
Once across the bridge Jeff eyed up a Starbucks for a quick caffeine refresher.
We had booked a boat round trip excursion which culminated at a village called Weggis, located at the base of Mount Rigi. It was fairly windy out of the lake as we headed on boat cruise to Weggis.
We passed by a few stops along the way to drop and collect passengers. There was no shortage of interesting homes along the lake shore too.
Arrival at the village of Weggis, we found our cogwheel railway to take us to mount Rigi summit.
Here is the journey up the mountain and steep slopes. It passed by a few stops for local community as climbed.
It was very windy at the summit but clear blue skies afford amazing views of 360 degrees. Ryan was cold as he sported some beach-wear and was convinced the Abominable Snowman was out to get him! Fortunately, that would be a different mountain range. Not to worry, William Tell is on hand to save him!

On the return leg of the lake leg from Weggis to Lucerne our paddle boat had an open engine room where you could view the engine turning the huge paddles on either side of the boat.
We wrapped up our Lucerne walk around some of the town looking at some cool buildings and ending with some drinks in a wine bar along by the old bridge and river.
