Notre Dame de Paris

It had only been a week since the devastating fire consumed the medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité. We thought since we were staying so close to the area we would see for ourselves the extent of the destruction and what remained.

The area close up was cordoned off for security and even the metro station for the Île de la Cité was closed. Only viewing across the river seemed possible. We were not the only ones to come by and try and see. It was total chaos with thousands of visitors and well wishers passing by taking photos.

Here is what I could see from our distant position and amazing how much survived and people saved that would otherwise have been reduced to nothing more than ashes.

As you can tell from the last photo the roads were jammed with people a lot were nearly rundown by fast moving vehicles only inches away.
