Sunday was a quiet day but I needed to get the kids away from the digital devices and movies to the outside. Hayley and I walked Pepper up to and by the horses and farm just up the hill from us. This still didn't feel adequate.
We headed into Basel via trams and kids with their scooters. We hit one of their favorite little parks by the river which give them time to burn off some calories and get some wiggles out.
Ryan had been keen to visit the burger festival since this is now one of his favorite meals. Hayley was not convinced that they could accommodate her minimalistic requirements - bread and burger only. Maybe fries with that on the side is an acceptable accompaniment. I assured her she would be accommodated.
The number 14 tram got closest to the Basel soccer stadium and the festival was located just on the other side from that. Eleven stops from downtown Basel and we were at the soccer stadium. Yay for public transport!
We arrived to find lots of trucks/food tents with all sorts of options based on various nationalities own takes or different types of meats.
Obviously, beef, but the list included ox, al paca, lama, chicken, pork to name but a few. There were some interesting desserts too, a version of macaroons coming in various flavors, some waffles with Nutella and various fruit or marshmallow toppings or churros for the Hispanic crowd. Not sure where he or she lives in Switzerland but there must be one.
Ryan had a Gaucho burger but without the tomato, onions or salad. He did include bacon and cheese and thought about salad until the lady behind the counter showed him what it contained.
Hayley had a minimalist Peruvian burger which just included chips and burger with the bun.
I had Bison overload which was a double and came with sweet potato fries. It was dense and filling and very good. I washed it down with a Sudwerk Porter craft beer!
After the kids roamed around a little and I ate my burger I let them have a choice of dessert. Churros was the choice of the day.
On our return to downtown Basel and Banhof SBB we had a quick break and they found an interesting trike
Then resumed the churros consumption while I finished with a coffee
An interesting mini adventure for dinner.
