A Towering History

On a bright sunny morning after a few breakfast munchies and a hot cafe latte with as many shots of espresso as the cup would allow and still contain some frothy milk we wandered over to one of the best historical sites in London.

A visit to the tower of London is the order of the day and it has been a while since any of us had been there.

From the outside the impressive little village contained within the now dried out moat and the thick outer walls it looked impressive. Even more so when you considered how far back into England's history you viewing.

Once tickets had been acquired we crossed the dried out moat and over the bridge into the inner min-city and headed straight to the heart of the matter - namely the Royal Mint. It was fascinating to see where and how the manufactured the original currency.

From to the inner tower here it is viewed from the outer walls.

It is so well guarded!

Look at the size of his cannon!!! I think Andi and Jill were more impressed by the size of his hat than anything else.

Here is a photo of the real guard

These little fellas you didn't mess with. Ryan tried getting close but was soon chased off.

Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos of the prized possessions of the Crown. Lots of the jewels and Sceptres dated back to just after the English civil war. Most artifacts had been destroyed during that tumultuous period. But there were interesting artifacts dating back to knights and the likes of Henry VIII reign.

And then there we some that played on myths and legends like the following dragon.

From the Tower Of London we wandered over to Tower bridge and wandered over it to the south bank of the river Thames. Of course, there was some time to partake in being tourists and getting some interesting shots.

Once on the South bank we walked alongside the river stopping for a coffee and a break.

The day ended with a great dinner at the Gordon Ramsay restaurant Bread Street kitchen where some nice cocktails and food were consumed. A winner all around was the espresso martini which became dessert for some participants!
