It was wet and windy and Hayley was a birthday playdate and Andi was still out of town. Ryan and I hit the Basel Natural History museum for a couple hours as it had been about 3 and 1/2 years since our last visit.
Standing guard outside was my running buddy, when it isn't Andi.
I found that I could do something better than Von Gogh!
My hearing report was not as good on the right side apparently. Always fascinating to look into your left ear to see what is lurking there!
The newest exhibit was on ears and how the human hearing mechanism worked and was really well done with plenty of interactive activities.
As always the dinosaurs are a favorite to check out and remind yourself how much bigger they were back in day!
We saw the skeletal bones of a T-Rex and an Allosaurus. This was quickly followed by a discussion of a sort about who would win a fight between the two of them. Typical 11 year old boy question, at least from our 11 year old boy.
We visited the insect section which had an interesting display of ants and their colony and pathways.
This was followed up by trying to find John, Paul, George and Ringo!
In the aquatic section we ran into a Minke whale, all 8m of it and could see the baleen filter in its jaws. Ryan is there for a sense of scale although some uninvited photo-bombers dived in.
Here is more information about the Minke whale which is quite fascinating.
Finally the Peregrine falcon was exhibited in its full on dive to show how streamlined and fast it could be.
Although to my untrained eyes it looked just like the Norwegian Blue, but that be a famous parrot!
