We had heard so much about the city of Strasbourg we thought it would make for a fun day out. Given the holiday season and the Christmas markets in full swing, it seemed a great opportunity that was too good to miss.
It was an hour or so on the train which made for convenience and an easy day trip. Or so we thought.
The midmorning Saturday express was jammed to the rafters. We stood in between the carriages and bathrooms. Fortunately the bathrooms were not too stinky!
The Strasbourg station was pretty cool. So I thought it was worth a photo.
We followed the directions on the map to main Christmas markets on the island in the center of the city, crossing the canals to get there.
Now let's hit the market and see what we can find. Large fir trees, smoked salmon, cool store fronts with Glühwein in hand.
After this we found the band had been put back together, was it a Stanford off-shoot?
The markets were quite large and very crowded with many visitors like ourselves. We did purchase some mistletoe to take home and we could have acquired many more seasonal offerings for sure.
At the end of the day while waiting for the next train to take us back to Basel, we found a Russian vodka bar!
