Its a fair cop

Herbstmesse or Basel Fall Fair

The 548th Herbstmesse is the oldest and largest fair in Switzerland. We visited the fair on 2 occasions so far. Maybe and likely more visits are on the way before it ends on November 11th.

The fair is situated in various locations throughout downtown including Barfüsserplatz, Petersplatz, Münsterplatz, Kaserne (near Claraplatz), Rosentalanlage, Messeplatz, and the Messehalle 3 at Riehenring.

So far, the Goddards have visited Barfüsserplatz, Messeplatz and Kaserne locations with Ryan and Hayley. Steve and Andi visited Petersplatz on Andi's birthday.

Messeplatz

The night at Messeplatz was cold and wet so we visited the restaurant Boo which has wonderful Thai cuisine and was heartwarming. The weather and rain prevented us from going on some of the more adventuresome rides that were there.

Each location hosts mainly rides and food vendors, but the Petersplatz location primarily features stalls selling all kinds of hand made crafts.

Stay tuned as updates and photos are forthcoming....

So here the Münsterplatz fair rides we hit

Other rides at other locations like Messeplatz and Kaserne are here

Basler Weinmesse or Basel Wine Fair

Basel hosts a wine fair each year featuring some 4000 wines! Yay!

This year the focus is on Spanish wines and the region of Ribera del Duero.

So, I confess we bought wines some to be shipped to us in February next year. We clearly are going to run current supplies low by then, so our thinking went. Hence, it was a must buy. We found some wineries we had visited on our honeymoon in Tuscany all those years ago. Poliziano and some Montepulciano wines are fun to check out once more.

Basler Feinmesse or Basel Gourmet Fair

A gourmet fair for lovers of fine foods and spirits! This sounded like it was a must visit fair.

The fair takes place along side the Weinmesse (see above) hosting around 80 exhibitors presenting products and services relating to drinking, eating, home accessories, home textiles, interior, kitchen utensils and tableware. Where you can enjoy and purchase the finest caviar, champagnes, cheeses, coffees, distilled spirits, microbrewery beers, oils, salmon and spices. Yum!

We found some very tasty burgers, a chocolate castle and tasty gin "Deux Freres" and coffee to finish.
